1/72 JS-3 (IS-3) Polish Army - Trumpeter - Workbench Part 3

Work on JS-3 continues. After quite a struggle I managed to install metal gun barrel into the mantlet (I had to widen the opening). Having this done, I assembled the turret. Fitting is quite away from snug.

Assembled turret revealed rather serious gaps on both sides of the gun mount...

It seems I cannot avoid the filler. Not being in the mood for this, I airbrushed the base coat of Tamiya XF-69 NATO BLACK on the tracks.

I also started preparing crew figures to fit into turret's hatch. They came from Preiser's set.

  1. PS Why not give the end of the gun a turn in a lathe, and scrape of some excess metal???Fine way to avoid cracks in the gun mantlet!

  2. Well, metal barrel did not cause the gaps. I widen the hole for the barrel in mantlet, but poor fit of turret parts is kit's fault.
